During the time from the 14th to the 17th of November 24 Friends from the Baha'i community and 24 Alevites were invited to Berlin for a political educational trip. The initiator was Dr. Gerhard Schick from the Green Party.
Participating in the wonderful program, the days passed very fast. After the political sight-seeing tour we visited the Bundesrat, the German Bundestag in the Reichstagsgebäude. There we had the opportunity to talk to different delegates and to participate at a plenary meeting.
This wasn't just a fun trip. One of the sad parts was the visit of the memorial places and museums of the "KZ und Speziallagers Sachsenhausen", where hundreds of thousands of people from 18 countries had to suffer indescribable afflictions and tens of thousands of them lost their lives. Also the visit of the Berlin-Hohenschönhausen memorial, the former Zentrale der Untersuchungshaftanstalt der Stasi, where a former prisoner told the story of the horrible physical and mental cruelty they had to suffer.
During the common activities the Baha'is and Alevites got to know more about each other and the common aspects of their religions. The visit of the JEM House of the Alevite Community of Berlin and the final visit of the museum of islamic art, the Pergamonmuseum, were both highlights of this trip.
