During the time in Shimkent (Kasachstan) 1981-1984 Helmut visited Samarkand, Buchara and Tashkent (Usbekistan) several times. Unfortunately there was seldom a camera at hand but we still found some slides to upload.
Samarkand, one of the most wonderful cities in Central Asia, lies along the Silk Route. It's one of the oldest cities in the world.
Most of the pictures are taken in Samarkand at the Registan, one of the most magnificent squares in Central Asia. It's an ensemble of three madrasahs (quran schools). I'ts a good and unique example of the art of the city construction and the architectural design of the main square of the town.
Helmut enjoyed the atmosphere that surrounded him while walking around the mosques, bazaars, backyards of this town very much.
Helmut met Baha'i friends during his trip in 1989 to Aschkabad, Turkmenistan and 1998 to Almaty, Kazakhstan.
