The wedding celebration (farah, as they say in Arabic) took place in the city center of Cairo near the famous pyramids.
Already in the morning of the 2nd of May 2008 we drove all together to honoured Baha'i friends where the Baha'i marriage ceremony took place. Asmaa and Janis performed the ceremony by each saying, in the presence of at least two witnesses, the prescribed verse "we will all, verily, abide by the Will of God", and by signing the marriage certificate. In this moment Olga and Helmut felt that Janis isn't their little kid anymore. Their child became a man, two human beings developed a new family, it was a wonderful feeling.
After the wedding Asmaa and the girls went to the hairdresser to prepare for the evening party. There was always someone not busy with hair straightening or manicure, who danced to Arabic music.
All day long the Egyptian women sang the traditional wedding call.
In the evening the beautiful girls were picked up from the handsomely dressed guys and together we went to the boat. Janis looked so proud and excited when he saw his young wife in the beautiful wedding dress, with the pretty make-up and the hairdo.
In honking cars we drove to the Nile to enter the ship where the ceremony took place. The flowery decoration of the wedding car, the loud music, the honking and singing, the pure joy of the participants, everything attracted the people who came and showed their happiness and congratulated... The jokes, joy, happiness and energy, especially expressed by the youth in all possible ways, gave the event a special flavor, created a special unforgettable atmosphere. It was so catching that everyone had to join in, which enriched the party and made it exciting and unforgettable for every one.
Over 100 guests celebrated that special event on the boat that was beautifully decorated with a multitude of lights. The happy couple opened the night with a dance. And soon everyone joined in, danced Arabic dances, clapped, laughed, rejoiced.
Janis got warmly accepted into Asmaa's wonderful, loving family. All Baha'is, friends, relatives congratulated the young couple, their families, each other with the happy event - the creation of a new family.
